How to Protect Stainless Steel Fender Washers from Corrosion

B. Metallic coatings:

It can be zinc, nickel, and cadmium. Zinc is considered a sacrificial layer before it reaches the actual metal. The nickel coating adds protection when the finish is thick. Cadmium offers good-quality protection but it is highly toxic.

C. Electroplating:

It can use any metal as a surface coating but the most commonly used surface coating is silver and chromium.

D. Chemical plating:

This is also a reliable corrosion and abrasive resistance that uses nickel and phosphor alloy.

E. Bluing:

This is the process of exposing the steel fender to a chemical compound that can create a colored and resistant surface.


You have to understand that corrosion happens when there is a reaction between the gases around your and the metal. The good news is that you can take preventive measures to control the environment and decrease the likelihood of corrosion. You can start simply by decreasing exposure of washers to seawater or rain.  You can also take complicated measures like regulating the sulfur, chlorine and oxygen amount.


You can also check the manufacturers for available design modifications. There will be many design modifications that can facilitate reduction of corrosion thereby improving the sturdiness of pre-existing corrosive coatings.
