Accountability and Efficiency of Government

This group is working on ways of ensuring that the policy system is developed in such a way as to deal with current obvious failings. While the capacity within the public sector to manage public services efficiently has improved, there seems to have been a corresponding decline in the quality of policy work, particularly in the civil service. Since there has simultaneously been a process of centralisation of public policy decision-making, the system appears to have been centralised into a less capable centre. A group has begun to meet to explore the issues.
