The centre-left stands urgently in need of a new organising ideal - a working model of the kind of society it aspires to create. Can the notion of a 'stakeholder society' fill the gap? This is the question with which the Nexus Working Group on Social Justice and the Stakeholder Society will be concerned.
Building on the recent work of the Borrie and Dahrendorf Commissions, our aim is to engage sympathetic academics and others in a critical but constructive discussion that will give some real content to the notion of a stakeholder society. Areas of concentration are likely to include: corporate governance and the stakeholder enterprise; the dispersion of wealth and opportunity; and the creation of an enabling welfare state. Following an initial meeting, a draft position paper has been written and is being circulated among the group for comments.
We have also set up the Stakeholder Theme Group Library where you can find links to relevant publications both on and off the Nexus Website.
